History

The year is 1938. An economic crisis has been raging for nearly ten years. In Granby, agronomist Alpha Mondou and farmer Omer Deslauriers bring together 87 farmers to create a cooperative, because they are convinced that unity is strength. These farmers put their savings – about $50 each – and all their hopes into the Cooperative! Driven by the values ​​of solidarity, democracy and empowerment, the founders of Agropur have chosen an original and different organizational model: cooperation. Looking to the future with optimism, they are convinced of one thing: “The Cooperative will know no borders.” Over the years, they have made more than 140 acquisitions and mergers that have allowed their Cooperative to see its sales reach $8.2 billion by 2023.
